Apple acquires its first game studio
The maker of iPhones, MacBooks, and other elegant products may develop your next favourite video game. The tech company told CNET on Tuesday that it purchased two-person studio RAC7, which made Sneaky Sasquatch for Apple Arcade.
“We are thrilled that the two-person RAC7 team has joined Apple to continue their work on Sneaky Sasquatch with us,” an Apple representative stated in an email. “We love Sneaky Sasquatch and are excited about it.” “We will persist in providing Apple Arcade players with an exceptional experience by offering hundreds of games from some of the most talented game developers in the world.”
After releasing Sneaky Sasquatch on Apple Arcade in 2019, RAC7 has published frequent upgrades. That game won Apple Arcade Game of the Year in 2020.
Digital Trends stated that Apple bought RAC7 to help the firm build its Apple Arcade game. As to the article, Apple will continue to collaborate with third-party companies on service games.
This approach may sound weird, yet numerous game firms own gaming studios. Spry Fox and Night School Studio, which developed Cosy Grove and Oxenfree, are among Netflix Games’ studios. Who could forget Microsoft’s expanding game studios, including Activision Blizzard and Bethesda?
Mobile gaming is a lucrative sector, therefore Apple wants to expand. A 2024 NewZoo research found that mobile gaming income made about half of all gaming revenue in 2023, at $90 billion.
